Using This Optimizer
Set your machine type first. Each analog drum machine has different limitations. The TR-808 works best with patterns under 12 steps to avoid timing drift. The 909 handles up to 16 steps but loses velocity resolution on complex patterns.
Adjust the step sliders to set how many hits you want for each drum. The optimizer will suggest distribution patterns. For example, if you want 8 kick hits in 16 steps, it will suggest a classic hip-hop pattern on beats 1, 2, 3, 4 with additional hits on the off-beats.
The velocity curve controls how dynamics are applied. Straight works for programmed beats. Swing adds natural feel. Natural creates human randomness that works well on MPC-style workflows.
Common Patterns to Try
- 808 Boom-Bap: Kick 1-2-3-4, Snare 2-4, 8-12 hats
- 909 Four-on-the-Floor: Kick every step, Snare 2-4, 16 hats
- MPC Trap: Kick 1-&-5-&, Snare 3-, 12-16 hats
